Comfort, a beautiful ambiance and a huge dance floor await you! Don’t miss this spectacular evening!
AMBIDEXTROUS is a Chicago-area 1960s/70s cover band which has been entertaining audiences for 11 years. This is their 3rd appearance at the MOONLIGHT THEATRE. If you were a fan of the Pheasant Run Playhouse here in St. Charles, the band’s founding member and guitarist, Scott Sodaro, made his professional stage debut in 1976 in Time Out For Ginger, starring Richard Egan. He remained lifelong friends with Richard Egan, and he later moved to Los Angeles, where he pursued an acting career. He appeared in several national Mazda commercials, did a couple of speaking roles on The Young and The Restless, and was a member of the Harvey Lembeck Comedy Workshop in Beverly Hills, where he performed comedy improve with Sharon Stone, Grant Goodeve, Kim Lankford, Jim Haughton, Jill Whelan, and Don Lane. He moved back to Illinois in 1990 and spent 29 years as a Police Officer. During his free time while still an officer, he formed AMBIDEXTROUS with childhood friend, Ray Lemieux.
Lead singer, Jim Stephens is a truck driver, who always enjoyed doing karaoke. He never had a voice lesson in his life…he has just always enjoyed singing. Scott and Ray spotted him in a karaoke bar 11 years ago, and immediately asked him to join the band they were putting together. Thankfully, Jim agreed.
Drummer Angel Murillo has been in a multitude of Rock, Blues, Country, and Dance bands. “He is an AMAZING talent, who keeps our sound tight” says Scott. “By far the best drummer I’ve ever played with.” Angel has played with The Steve Richards Tribute Band, performing the music of Neil Diamond, Elton John, and Garth Brooks, to name a few. Lately, Angel has been spending his stage talents with The Rumble Cats and of course, AMBIDEXTROUS.
Keyboard player Jan Robert Richardson, is a versatile performer, not just on keyboard, but also on guitar, harmonica, and vocals. He is a legendary member of the Illinois Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for his work as a member of the 1970s band, MADFOX. “He can instantly jump in on songs he has never played before, simply by listening to a few measures”, according to Scott.
Bass player Richie Brandt had been performing music professionally for several decades. Starting out on guitar, he has a substantial background in American and Irish Folk, Traditional Country, Rockabilly, and Blues. Electric 4-string bass has been the instrument Richie has done much of his professional work on, which has also included 80s and Top 40, as well as private event bands. He has performed as a soloist, in duos, trios, and larger ensembles with horn sections. Needless to say, he loves performing music!
What makes AMBIDEXTROUS unique is their approach to the songs they love. “We don’t go on stage and play OUR rendition of the great songs of the past. We play them as best we can, using the original formulas which made those songs great. If there was no guitar solo in a song, we will not add one. The same goes for drums, bass, and keyboards. We wanted to be a band which was essentially a jukebox filled with what WE feel are the greatest songs from the past”, according to guitarist Scott Sodaro. “We want the audience to not know what’s coming next….Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Monkees, the Boxtops, or Iron Butterfly and Steppenwolf. The best part is when we play a song which few or no other bands play, and then after the show, people tell us that they have never heard anyone else do that particular song before. That’s what makes our day.”
